This loveable lurcher recently celebrated his fourth birthday with a rescue centre garden party, as he continues his search for a forever home.

Perry has been in the care of Battersea’s Old Windsor centre for over 18 months or almost 600 days, more than 15 times the average stay.

Among the 2,278 dogs Battersea directly cared for in 2022, the average stay at the centre is just 35 days.

So, in an effort to celebrate Perry turning four and lift his spirits, the charity’s dedicated staff threw him his very own party filled with gifts, toys and balloons.

However, Perry’s one birthday wish is for a family of his own.

Staff believe the reason for his unusually long search for a home is that he gets overly excited around people.

Despite this, Perry has made great progress since being in a foster home, and has proved to be an affectionate and playful pet.

He greatly enjoys spending time with his favourite people and loves nothing more than leaning in for a gentle fuss and scratch behind his ears.

Perry’s spirits have never dampened, and he is described by Battersea staff as a cheerful dog who brightens everyone’s days with his cheeky antics and sweet nature.

Rosie Beauvais, Battersea Rehoming and Welfare Assistant and Perry’s foster carer, said: ‘Perry is an absolute delight to be around and he never fails to make me smile with his goofy personality.

‘He’s such a playful boy who loves spending his time playing games with his never-ending collection of toys.

‘Once he’s worn himself out from a day of fun and games, he’ll happily take himself away for a snooze in his favourite comfy spot.’

Perry loves the outdoors too, and Rosie says he ‘enjoys spending most of his time in the garden where he will gallop around at full speed when he gets his daily zoomies.’

She added: ‘He is such a character and he will make a wonderful addition to the right family.’

Despite sighthounds typically preferring the couch potato lifestyle, Perry is an active dog who likes to stretch his legs.

He would love to find a family with an active lifestyle who have experience with Sighthounds to help him burn off his energy through lots of interesting walks and playtime.
