DOE boosts transparency with new websites

MANILA  -The Department of Energy (DOE) has looked to digitalization in ramping up its energy efficiency efforts after launching three websites that allowed more transparency in the implementation of relevant laws in the sector.

Mobile application City of Energia, as well as its website versions Enerhiyang Atin and Wattmatters, aim to increase awareness on energy efficiency measures and systems applicable to government agencies, the academe, students and media practitioners, according to the DOE.

The agency’s Designated Establishment online submission portal, meanwhile, will assist businesses in the commercial, industrial and transportation sectors in submitting compliance requirements.

Also included in the DOE’s energy efficiency “virtual showroom” is the Electric Vehicle Charging Station (EVCS) portal, which supports the identification, regulation and consolidation of all EVCS operators and applicants.

“We are pumping up our demand and knowledge-sharing for our customers as we launch and now utilize information and communications technology. With the [Energy Efficiency and Conservation] law, we have to have a roadmap, and included in the roadmap is the provision of best practices and support awareness raising,” Energy Undersecretary Felix William Fuentebella said in a statement.

The websites were launched in partnership with the US Agency for International Development (USAID) last week.

USAID Philippines environment office director Ryder Rogers noted that the websites could help in “cutting down bureaucratic footpaths” and promoting ease of doing business across the energy sector. INQ
