Doctor Who star Jodie Whittaker has revealed the warning she received from David Tennant about starring on the show as her 2022 exit nears.

On Sunday October 31, series 13 of Doctor Who – titled Flux – is set to launch on BBC One, teasing trouble for The Doctor and her companions Yaz (Mandip Gill) and newcomer Dan (John Bishop).

It will be Jodie’s last full season in her role as the titular character, as well as Chris Chibnall’s final series as showrunner before Russell T Davies takes over the role once again.

During a recent interview, Jodie looked back on when she was first announced as The Doctor in 2017, revealing what David, who portrayed the Tenth Doctor, warned her about the role.

Speaking to RadioTimes.com, she said: ‘I was announced in…was I announced in 2017? Yeah. Weirdly, it’s like for me, it’s as if it’s been three years, I’ve done three seasons, but it’s been much longer than that.’

She continued: ‘And actually, it has gone [quickly]. And I remember this was one thing that I really remember David saying to me before, right? Like before I started shooting. He said, “This will go so quickly. It will feel like it goes in a whirlwind”.’

It feels like it was only yesterday that Jodie was announced as the new Doctor, taking over the character from Peter Capaldi.

Speculation is rife as to who will become the Fourteenth Doctor, with names floating around including It’s A Sin star Olly Alexander, I May Destroy You creator Michaela Coel and Love Actually actor Kris Marshall.

Earlier this month, Jodie opened up about how she feels about her Doctor Who exit, saying she will be ‘filled with a lot of grief’.

‘It will be very… I feel like I will be filled with a lot of grief for it because I kind of… Even thinking about it, it makes me upset. But this show needs new energy,’ she told Metro.co.uk and other press.

‘The Doctor, the joy of this part is you hand on your boots – and you hand them on. And I don’t know who, but whoever that is, what a thing to go, “You are going to have a right time”.’

Doctor Who: Flux begins at 6:15pm on BBC One on Sunday October 31.
