Doctor Who has confirmed the main cast and many guest stars, but Russell T Davies is holding something back to give viewers a bit of a surprise.

The main series will be returning to our screens in November, with Sex Education star Ncuti Gatwa, 30, as the Fifteenth doctor. The Timelord will of course be joined by his faithful companion, played by Coronation Street’s Millie Gibson, 18, with the duo having been spotted filming.

Amongst those who are also appearing on the BBC science-fiction programme are Jonathan Groff, 38, will have a ‘key role,’ and Lenny Rush, 14, who is playing a character called Morris which he described as a ‘dream role.’

The already glistening lineup has another major guest star, whose scenes were filmed in a studio meaning it’s been easier to keep the secret.

‘There’s a great set in the very last block of the 2024 series. It only appears for one scene. But a crucial scene,’ Russell teased in this month’s Doctor Who Magazine.

‘With a really lovely guest star, unseen by the public, unannounced in the press, cos the scene takes place secretly within the studio, so you’ve got a nice surprise to come…’

Russell explained his excitement for this famous mystery star encouraged him to visit the set.

‘And then! Look! It’s me! Wandering onto the set. Coming to have a little shufti. (But really to meet the guest star, cos, y’know, famous, okay?),’ he wrote.

Ncuti, who is already a millionaire, admitted that he wasn’t a massive fan of the show, but before auditioning for the part he decided to watch every single episode since its 2005 revival, after which he emerged a die-hard Whovian.

‘I fell in love with it. When you watch it, you forget all your troubles,’ he shared.

‘You go to space, or to another time. You have adventures.’

He also explained that his version of the character would be ‘emotionally vulnerable’ and whilst he hid those traits with humour, he was ‘lonely’.
