Doctor Strange’s Replacement Denies [SPOILER] the Title of Sorcerer Supreme
The rank of Sorcerer Supreme has passed to a new mystic following The Death of Doctor Strange, but a major villain feels the title should be his.
Doctor Strange is dead, and Doctor Doom feels that he is next in line for the title of Sorcerer Supreme.
Unfortunately for Doom, he is not the one that Strange gifted the Eye of Agamotto and Cloak of Levitation to during the finale of The Death of Doctor Strange. Before Strange died for the second time in the span of a week, he reunited with his true love, Clea, and gifted her the magical items along with a farewell kiss. Now, Clea is the Sorcerer Supreme of Earth-616, and a preview for Strange #1 by Jed MacKay and Marcelo Ferreira shows her having to deny Doom of his claims.
The preview shows Doom giving Clea a “courtesy” visit at the Sanctum Sanctorum (even knocking on the door rather than barging in) before he states that he will “obviously” take the title of Sorcerer Supreme, demanding the Eye of Agamotto and Cloak of Levitation. Before Clea became the mystical defender of Earth-616, she was already the Sorcerer Supreme of the Dark Dimension. Clea dismisses the request with a firm “No,” and as Doom escalates his fury for being denied, Clea suits up in her new robes to take him on.
Sorcerer Supreme Doctor Dooms are becoming more commonplace in Marvel Comics as of late though. A member of the Multiversal Masters of Evil in the current Avengers run is called Doom Supreme, who is a version of Doom that kept the mystical armor made with the skin of his lost love, Valeria. Also, in Devil’s Reign: Superior Four, Doctor Octopus has encountered a variant of himself that is crossed with Doctor Doom and is also his Earth’s Sorcerer Supreme.
However, the main continuity Doom does not appear to be getting what he wants, which marks the second time in a month that he has been bested by another. In this past week’s Iron Man #17, after planning to remove Tony Stark’s cosmic powers, Doom was seemingly murdered by the armored Avenger in a brutal fashion — and that was after trying to beat Stark with sorcery.
