Dockers handed monster fine for coach’s breach
Fremantle assistant coach Josh Carr has been hit with a four-match suspension while the club was handed a $25,000 fine for breaching Western Australia’s quarantine protocols earlier in the year.
Carr was stood down by the club in late July after being alleged to have committed three separate breaches when he was absent during a police visit to his home.
The four-match suspension is backdated, with Carr already having served two matches in Rounds 20 and 21, meaning the remainder of his ban will be served during the first two rounds of the 2022 home and away season.
Fremantle’s $25,000 fine, of which $12,500 is suspended, will be included in the club’s 2021 football department soft cap.
In addition to the $6000 fine he received from WA Police, Carr has agreed to pay the $12,500 fine imposed on his club by the AFL.
“The level of cooperation and understanding among all parties during this season and last year is the reason we were able to keep playing,” Fremantle CEO Simon Garlick said in a statement on Monday.
“It is not something we take for granted, and nor is the broader obligation the club and the AFL has to the community to do the right thing.
“Josh has demonstrated clear remorse for his actions, and as a highly valued member of staff, will continue to have the support of the club.”
