As the first of three May bank holidays arrives this Monday, May 1, many people are wondering they can get a supermarket delivery that day.
Whether you’re working over the bank holiday or getting together with friends or family, having groceries delivered saves that time-consuming trip to the supermarket.
Even if some of the substitutions – such as toilet rolls instead of bread rolls – can leave you wondering what on earth they were thinking.
With the weather looking good, it’s the perfect time to free up time and dust off the BBQ or just catch up with those DIY jobs.
So are supermarkets delivering groceries and orders on Monday?
Here’s what you need to know.
Are supermarkets doing deliveries on bank holiday Monday?
The good news is that most supermarkets including Asda, Sainsbury’s and the Co-Op, are operating a normal delivery service over the bank holiday Monday.
Unlike Easter Sunday, where trading laws mean stores over a certain size need to close for the day, the bank holiday has no such laws.
You can book a delivery in the usual way online – provided there are slots available.
If you can’t secure a slot and need to pop to the shops, here’s when they’re open.
Supermarket opening times on May 1
These include:
- Sainsbury’s – Most larger stores will be open 10am to 4pm. Check your local store opening hours online
- Tesco – Some larger stores and Tesco Metros will be open at slightly reduced hours from 8am to 6pm. Check your local store opening hours online
- Asda – Stores will open under different hours on bank holiday Monday, with most open from 7am to 8pm. Check your local store opening times online
- Morrisons – Most stores will be open from 7am to 8pm. Check local store opening times online
- Waitrose – Stores will be open 9am-6pm. Check local store opening times online
- Aldi – Stores will be open 8am to 8pm. Check local opening times online
- Lidl – Some Lidl stores will be open between 8am and 8pm, while others will close at 10pm. Check your local store opening hours online
- Co-Op – Opening times vary by location, with shoppers able to check their local opening times online
