Disqualified and uninsured motorist failed to stop in Heywood
A disqualified and uninsured motorist was also charged with failing to stop and driving without due care and attention in Heywood.
The driver, who tried to flee after failing to stop for the Greater Manchester Police officers, was remanded to appear in court on Tuesday morning.
A photograph of the driver’s Nissan accompanied a 1am post in the early hours of this morning, which recounted the incident on the Greater Manchester Police Traffic Twitter account.
The post read: “This vehicle failed to stop for #XT48 in @GMPHeywood. Driver gave it legs but was swiftly detained. Driver arrested for disqualified driving, failing to stop, driving without insurance and driving without due care and attention. Charged and remanded for court in the morning!”
According to the Motor Insurers’ Bureau, there are around one million uninsured drivers on the UK’s roads.
The punishment for driving without a licence in the UK is three to six penalty points and a fine of up to £1,000, but that fine becomes unlimited if the driver is also uninsured and a driving ban can then be enforced too.
