Disney World’s Costly Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser Is Closing After Just 18 Months

Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser, the immersive and costly two-night adventure at Walt Disney World that lets you live your dream of visiting that galaxy far, far away, is officially starting its final “voyage” on September 28 before closing for good on September 30 after just 18 months.

Disney recently announced the news and confirmed it would be stopping new reservations until May 26. In the meantime, it will be contacting guests who had reservations beyond September 28 to see if they wanted to reschedule or cancel their trip.

Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser opened at Disney World on March 1, 2022, and we said it is a “Star Wars dream come true.” Unfortunately, the ticket aboard the cruise-like experience that took place in a stationary building near Disney World’s Hollywood Studios is very expensive.

If you want to stay in a two-person cabin, you are looking at $1,209 per guest per night or $4,809 for the entire trip. For three guests, it’s $889 per guest per night or $5,299 for the entire trip. For four guests, it is $749 per guest per night or $5,999 for the entire trip.

As for what that amount gets you? Well, a lot! From cabins that have a window out into “space” to a fully immersive Star Wars story with characters new and old you get to take part in to lightsaber training to special food from that galaxy far, far away and so much more, it was aimed at those who have always wanted to be part of the Star Wars universe.

The cast members on Galactic Starcruiser were fully in character as well, and there were “story” moments that happened throughout the stay, including a mission that had guests causing a distraction so Chewbacca could escape the clutches of the First Order.

Oh, and guests would get a chance to hop on a shuttle (aka a very exciting doorway) and visit Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge for a bit to ride Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run and Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance, build their own lightsaber and droid, drink some blue milk, and more.

“Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser is one of our most creative projects ever and has been praised by our guests and recognized for setting a new bar for innovation and immersive entertainment. This premium, boutique experience gave us the opportunity to try new things on a smaller scale of 100 rooms, and as we prepare for its final voyage, we will take what we’ve learned to create future experiences that can reach more of our guests and fans,” a Walt Disney World spokesperson said in a statement to IGN.

Earlier in March, Disney announced it would be reducing the amount of Galactic Starcruiser voyages from three trips per week to two. This news also follows Disney’s announcement it would be canceling its $1 billion plan to move much of Disney Imagineering from California to Lake Nona, Florida.
