Disney+ Welcomes Daredevil, Punisher and More With Defenders Saga Hub, New Trailer
Disney+ celebrates the arrival of Marvel’s Netflix series with a dedicated “Defenders Saga” hub and a new promo starring Daredevil and company.
Marvel’s Netflix original series have officially arrived on Disney+.
As of today, March 16, Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, The Defenders and The Punisher are all available to stream on Disney+, having been removed from Netflix at the start of the month. Disney+ has marked the occasion by not only giving these shows their own “Defenders Saga” hub under the streaming service’s Marvel section, but also releasing a new promotional trailer celebrating Disney+ as “The Streaming Home of Marvel.”
The trailer focuses primarily on the aforementioned Netflix originals, though also briefly highlights ABC’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., which has itself made the jump to Disney+ after previously being available to stream on Netflix.
Marvel’s Netflix originals have opened the door for TV-MA content to be available on Disney+. Starting today, users who sign into the platform will be prompted to update their parental settings, and decide which (if any) profiles can access this content. They can also set a security pin, if they so choose.
Marvel’s Netflix lineup began with Daredevil. Starring Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock/Daredevil, the series initially ran for three seasons from April 10, 2015 to Oct. 19, 2018. The first season of Daredevil was followed up by the Krysten Ritter-led Jessica Jones, which itself ran for three seasons from Nov. 20, 2015 to June 14, 2019.
Jessica Jones‘ first season also marked the debut of Mike Colter’s Luke Cage, who spun off into a show of his own. Luke Cage ran for two seasons from Sept. 30, 2016 to June 22, 2018. Luke Cage was followed up by the Finn Jones-led Iron Fist, which similarly ran for two seasons from March 17, 2017 to Sept. 7, 2018. Cox, Ritter, Colter and Jones’ respective Marvel heroes joined forces in the Netflix limited series The Defenders, which dropped on Aug. 18, 2017.
Finally, The Punisher, starring Jon Bernthal as lead character Frank Castle, ran for two seasons on Netflix from Nov. 17, 2017 to Jan. 18, 2019. Bernthal reprised his role as the Punisher from the second season of Daredevil, which dropped in 2016. Meanwhile, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. aired on ABC for seven seasons from 2013 to 2017. As part of a licensing agreement, the show was previously available to stream on Netflix.
Some of Marvel’s Netflix characters have recently established themselves as being canon to the mainstream Marvel Cinematic Universe. Cox reprised his role as Matt Murdock in the film Spider-Man: No Way Home, while his former Daredevil co-star Vincent D’Onofrio reprised his role as Wilson Fisk/Kingpin in the Disney+ original series Hawkeye.
Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, The Defenders, The Punisher and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. are available to stream on Disney+ now.
