‘Disgraceful’ act of crowd violence mars Magic Round

A violent brawl has broken out at Suncorp Stadium, with several fans involved in a fight that shocked onlookers.

Captured by a phone camera from within the ground, 9News reporter Mark Gottlieb posted the vision on Twitter, describing it as “another disgraceful act”.

The brawl is the second such instance of crowd violence to mar a match at Suncorp Stadium in recent weeks, following wild scenes on Anzac Day as the Broncos clashed with the Bulldogs.

On that occasion the crowd turned on a Broncos fan who reportedly yelled out during the minute’s silence as part of the pre-game ceremony, with a Bulldogs supporter grabbing him and punching him in the head several times.

The incident while the Broncos clashed with Manly on the opening night of Magic Round appeared to be more widespread, with several fights breaking out between fans within the same area of seating.

In the video shared by Gottlieb, fans wearing jerseys to support multiple different teams are involved, with one supporter falling backwards over several rows of seats after being struck in the head.

Spotfires then break out between several other fans. One can be heard asking “where is security”, while many others cheer and jeer.

Journalist Brett Darbritz replied to Gottlieb’s tweet, writing: “I have family members who take their little kids to the footy. That won’t happen if this isn’t stamped out.”
