Diplo in double tragedy as he announces mum and sister have died weeks apart

Diplo, real name Thomas Wesley Pentz, is mourning the death of his mother Barbara Jean Pentz, roughly four weeks after his sister Amy died.

The 44-year-old announced the sad news on his Instagram page, where he shared various precious moments of him and his mum during his childhood, days as a student, and recent times.

Alongside the candid pictures, he posted a lengthy heartfelt tribute to the “first love” and “first woman in my life”.

He continued: “Even as a grown man its a cosmic gut punch to lose your mother. When your grow up and u leave home. In a way it’s sad to think but u know mother is always there.

“Even as a man – you would never call on your mom for things but you know somewhere deep inside that she would protect you… she give you your first feeling of security because she gave u a life.” (sic)

Diplo went on to talk about his mother’s sacrifices in order for him to be able to become the successful DJ he is today.

His mum, he added, was also a huge fan of his art and used to help promote his music on former social media platform Myspace.

“She gave me all the confidence in the world & she supported me with all her energy, even when I broke and had nothing,” he continued.

The artist went on to say she was his “number one everything” and that he “couldn’t do anything wrong in her eyes”.

As well as this, the father-of-three said she was a doting grandmother to his sons Lockett, Lazer and Pace.

Diplo’s mum’s death happened just one month after his sister Amy died.

The DJ didn’t publicly share the news at the time, but revealed that his mum had been “suffering a lot in her soul” following the news.

“Her body was fighting a fight she wasn’t going to win,” he continued, adding she “needed to be with Amy”.

Many of Diplo’s 6.2 million followers, including many fellow DJs, flocked to his post to send their condolences.

Tiesto commented: “Losing your mother is losing a part of yourself… Sorry for your loss.”

Dillon Francis typed: “I love you Wes I’m so sorry…this post brought tears to my eyes wish I could give you a massive hug rn.”

Camilla Cabello wrote: “I’m really sorry Wes. Love you so much.”

Laidback Luke added: “Man my heart just broke reading all of this. I’m so sorry for your loss, and to hear that about your sister as well. I can’t even imagine.

“Love and strength to you and your family Wes. Hang in there!”
