Dick Van Dyke channels ‘Mary Poppins’ role while shopping with wife Arlene Silver

He’s ready for his close-up.

Legendary film actor Dick Van Dyke and his wife Arlene Silver were spotted at a Santa Monica Target store on Tuesday buying a television after the Hollywood icon taped a guest role on “Days of Our Lives.”

The 97-year-old actor — who wowed audiences earlier this year with a performance on “The Masked Singer” — wore long navy pants and a white, long-sleeve, pullover shirt complete with black shoes and a cane as he strode into the megastore, as seen in photos obtained by The Post.

It wouldn’t be a stretch to suggest he resembled his spry, cane-toting “Mary Poppins” character, Mr. Dawes Senior and Junior, whom he played, respectively, in the 1964 classic musical and its 2018 film sequel, “Mary Poppins Returns.”

Silver — who the married actor in 2012 — wore a charcoal gray shirt with the word “Happy” written on it, plus matching dark pants and shoes.

The happy couple was spotted browsing the store’s vast selection of TVs before selecting a Vizio model, which Van Dyke gladly helped steady as his wife pushed the cart.

Silver, 51, and her husband were then seen playing with a paper windmill as they stood in the checkout line.

As the couple departed the store, makeup artist Silver managed to squeeze the appliance into the back seat of the car while Van Dyke waited patiently for her to finish before sliding into the vehicle’s passenger side.

The Post has reached out to Van Dyke for comment.

This acquisition of a new TV comes after Van Dyke revealed that he will be starring in his first-ever role on the long-running soap opera, according to Access.

Van Dyke told the outlet that he managed to snag a part thanks to his pal Drake Hogestyn, 69, who is a series regular on the show and reportedly goes to the same gym as the “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang” actor.

“I said, ‘Don’t you have any parts for old people? Come on — give me one,’” Van Dyke told Access. “And he took me seriously and got me a part!”

Access described Van Dyke’s role as “a mystery man with amnesia.”

“I have played old men before, but comedy old men. [This is the] first time I have ever just played my 97-year-old self,” Van Dyke said with a laugh.

The “Night at the Museum” star explained that in order to better prepare for the role — which will be part of an episode on Peacock next fall — he watched several episodes of the series to perfect the delivery of his lines.

“Some of the people have been doing it for 20 years,” said Van Dyke. “That’s all the homework I can do, watch one and see how they do it. The other thing, you have to hold, ‘duh duh,’ there’s the sting of music and we’ve said something exciting.”

Van Dyke also revealed that he turned to his longtime friend and “All My Children” alum Carol Burnett — who turned 90 on Wednesday — for guidance.

“Make sure you know all your lines because they don’t do retakes,” said Burnett.

The photos of the film icon and his wife mark the first time he has been seen since the “Bye Bye Birdie” star was in a serious car accident in March, in which Van Dyke’s vehicle skidded in wet weather conditions before smashing into a gate.

Police ruled there were no drugs or alcohol involved in the crash but reportedly submitted documents to the Malibu DMV to have the actor retake his driver’s test.

It was also reported that Silver had taken his keys and car away out of concern since the crash.
