TL;DR

  • Realme has announced the GT Neo 2 smartphone in China.
  • The Snapdragon 870 SoC device packs a nifty diamond-based cooling system and a quick AMOLED screen made by Samsung.
  • Pricing starts below $400.

There’s a brand new Realme mid-ranger in the wild intended for gamers. Today, the Realme GT Neo 2 made its debut in China, sporting a clean design, quick internals, and a nifty precious stone-based cooling system.

Aesthetically, it’s reminiscent of current OnePlus devices with a rectangular camera array at the rear and a punch hole selfie camera in the front left. The GT Neo 2’s AMOLED display stems from Samsung and measures 6.6-inches from corner to corner. You’re also getting a 120Hz refresh rate and a 600Hz touch sampling rate.

Powering this screen is a Snapdragon 870 SoC with up to 12GB of RAM and 256GB of UFS 2.1 storage. This package is kept tepid through a cooling system that utilizes a vapor chamber, graphene heat pads, and cooling liquid with tiny diamond crystals. This cocktail reportedly keeps temps up to 18 degrees Celsius lower than other solutions, which sounds excellent in theory. In practice, it’s unclear how much more effective this setup is over an active fan-based solution.

Nevertheless, those hunting for a solid camera phone may have to look elsewhere anyway. You’re getting a 64MP primary shooter, an 8MP ultra-wide, and a 2MP macro setup on the GT Neo 2.

As for power delivery, a 5,000mAh battery features on the Realme GT Neo 2 and can be topped up using the 65W charging system. Realme mentions a 0% to 100% time of 36 minutes.

Realme GT Neo 2: Pricing and availability

The latest Realme device made its debut in China, and it’s unclear if it’ll be offered beyond the country’s borders.

The Realme GT Neo 2 starts at 2,399 yuan (~$370) for the 6GB/128GB option, but this config is only available in green with a black stripe across its rear. Pricing stretches to 2,999 yuan (~$464) for the 12GB/256GB option. Notably, the green, gradient blue, and black options can all be had with this combo over on Realme’s Chinese store.
