The actress, 43, played Sister George Michael in three series of the much-loved sitcom.
Derry Girls follows teens growing up in Londonderry in the 1990s and was a sleeper hit that built a large and committed following.
Set during the Troubles, the show was praised for offering a new perspective on the period of the IRA and loyalist ceasefires through the eyes of a group of young girls.
Sister Michael is a nun and the eye-rolling headmistress at Our Lady Immaculate College in Derry, Northern Ireland, and she was a fan favourite thanks to her sarcasm and witty comments, particularly towards her job.
She was definitely a more realistic nun, forever making sharp remarks towards the student body and faculty – oh, and she was a black belt in judo, of course.
However, it’s not a priority.
‘There’s a few more adventures I would love to have first,’ she began.
‘It’s a great compliment that people want to see more of her.’
On whether she would she want to revisit the character in the future, she admitted: ‘I’m thinking of today being the goodbye turn, the end of that chapter and it’s changed my life immensely.
‘I’ll always have her when I look in the mirror, but I think it’s time to move on to more adventures.’
Siobhán was nominated in the best female comedy category, along with Daisy May Cooper (Am I Being Unreasonable?), Diane Morgan (Cunk on Earth), Lucy Beaumont (Meet The Richardsons), Natasia Demetriou (Ellie & Natasia), and Taj Atwal (Hullraisers).
It was the first award of the night, and she only went and scooped the trophy!
In the humorous speech, which she said at double speed given the short time given, she said: ‘So, I’ve been warned not to do a political statement, so as my mother laid dying in Cork, one of the very last things she said to me was would I not consider retraining as a teacher.
‘If she could see me now, getting a Bafta for playing a teacher. Joke’s on you.’
She also thanked Derry Girls writer Lisa McGee ‘for not listening to me when I said I could play all the girls’ parts.’
The star then thanked Channel 4, adding ‘you have my devotion’.
Siobhán added: ‘To the people in Derry, thank you for taking me into your hearts and living room, despite the ignorance of your so-called leaders in Dublin, Stormont and Westminster.
‘Into the words of my beloved Sister Michael, “it’s time they started to wise up”.’
