Denise Welch argued with husband over reason stalker targeted them

Denise Welch, 64, explained her husband Lincoln Townley’s concerns that their ordeal with a stalker could be related to her Covid views.

Back in 2020, the Loose Women star was left terrified after Toraq Wyngard, 64, was found with a kitchen knife in his rucksack, after starting a fire in the driveway of her home.

At the time, Denise had been voicing her stance on the Covid crisis, having urged her fans to remember those that are dying from conditions unrelated to coronavirus as well.

However, her questioning of the Government’s decisions sparked widespread debate, with the actress claiming her comments were “making people mad”.

Now, joined by Lincoln on her Juicy Crack podcast, Denise gave listeners an insight into what they went through as a couple.

She said: “During this time as well, what was hard on us as a family […] is that we had a stalker. The fact that we had a stalker is public knowledge now.

“He’s in jail, he’s got a seven-year sentence – he committed arson at our house as well.

“But this caused a problem at the time with Lincoln and I because we didn’t know, and we still don’t, why this guy targeted us.

“And Lincoln was concerned for the safety of me and our family. That this guy had issues and it was because of my Covid restriction views.

“It could have been because of that, because it was making people mad on either side of the argument.”

Following the incident, Toraq was jailed for seven years and seven months on charges of stalking, arson, possession of a bladed article and criminal damage. He caused £4,285 worth of damage after the fire spread to their garage.

Following the verdict, Denise broke her silence in an emotional Twitter post that read: “Stalking is a serious offence.

“Pleased that in our case we had a judge who saw this.7 yrs!!” she ended her post, while sharing a link to an article following the trial.

Speaking to Manchester Crown Court, the former Coronation Street actress said that the incident had “changed her life”.
