‘Delusional’ Tszyu’s petty fib called out by Zerafa
Michael Zerafa has labelled Tim Tszyu “delusional” after the interim super welterweight champion said the Victorian will never be worth splitting a world title purse with equally.
The new interim WBO super welterweight champ is back in training following his victory over Tony Harrison in March and is on the look-out for a new opponent after Jermell Charlo declared he’d need more time to recover from his hand injury.
That led to reports that Tszyu’s camp had approached Zerafa for a bout in July, only for the Victorian to reject the proposal in favour of a WBA championship fight with Erislandy Lara in Las Vegas this July.

Tszyu denied an approach was made, telling Fox Sports he wouldn’t waste his time on Zerafa, who he called a “50-grand fighter” and a “clown”.
Speaking to Wide World of Sports, Zerafa unloaded on Tszyu.
“He’s f—ing delusional,” Zerafa said.
“He’s offered me more than 50k to begin with so he always backtracks on his word and while he was in the amateurs contemplating whether to be a professional, after Daniel Lewis bashed the f–k out of him, I was fighting for world titles.
“He’s been dropped by B+ fighters. The kid’s got his mum’s chin; he’s been dropped by five opponents.”
Tszyu and Zerafa denied an approach was made, despite Zerafa’s US agent Elvis Grant declaring any fight with Tszyu would need to be a 50/50 purse split.
But Zerafa says he’d be willing to bend on the split just to get in the ring with Tszyu.
“All he keeps doing is fighting fighters coming out of retirement. Apparently he’s fighting Austin Trout next, he’s having bare knuckle fights and retired five or six years ago,” Zerafa said.
“If he wants a real fight, let’s fight at 60/40. If he thinks he can beat me and he thinks he can knock me out and it’s not even a test then it shouldn’t be a problem.
“It’s not coming out of his pocket so what the f–k is his problem. he’s an idiot, he has no idea. He’s an interim world champion, thinks he’s the best fighter in the world, nobody wants to fight him because nobody knows him, he’s only known in Australia.”
Zerafa is still in negotiations for his WBA title bout with Tszyu’s career also going in a different direction. So why does Tszyu keep mentioning Zerafa?
“He’s in love with me. All he talks about is Zerafa this, Zerafa that. I didn’t mention his name.
“He keeps putting my name in his mouth. He’s delusional and says he’s going to go up to heavyweight but no one sees it.
“He’s a kid. He’s a boy. He can’t even grow a proper moustache. Once I knock him out I’ll teach him how to grow a beard.”
