Dean Henderson ‘set for 18-month loan’ move away from Manchester United

Dean Henderson was poised to be Manchester United’s starting goalkeeper in the 2021/22 season before an injury picked up in the summer followed by Covid-19 left him on the sidelines at the start of the season.

David de Gea jumped at the opportunity to cement his place as United’s number one and hasn’t looked back.

Though Henderson has recovered, he has only featured once for United this season and the team lost that game 1-0 against West Ham United in the Carabao Cup.

With playing time for the England shotstopper looking unlikely going forward, The Sun has reported the club will send him on an 18-month loan when the transfer window opens up in January.

It was a two-season stay with Sheffield United which not only propelled him into the England conversation but also as a viable long-term replacement for De Gea.

And another loan spell will at least have him back in Gareth Southgate’s mind ahead of the 2022 Qatar World Cup, with the The Sun going on to report that Newcastle United are interested following their Saudi Arabian-backed takeover last month.

Another player who could be out the door is defender Diogo Dalot, who has been linked with a move which would reunite him with former United boss Jose Mourinho.

Dalot has also spent much of the season on the bench, backing up right back Aaron Wan-Bissaka and could have left in the summer but opted to stay and fight for his place.

That fight has so far failed and with things unlikely to improve over the next few weeks, a switch to Serie A side Roma could see him get his wish of first-team football.

Corriere dello Sport report that Mourinho’s side will make a loan move with an option to buy, though it didn’t state whether the Portuguese star would be interested in leaving Old Trafford six months after deciding to stay.
