DC previously released a number of Pride 2022 variant covers showcasing the publisher’s leading LGBTQIA+ characters that will appear in DC’s line of monthly comics throughout June. Other variants have featured characters such as Jon Kent, Harley Quinn, Poison Ivy, Tim Drake, Nubia, Teen Justice and more.
DC Pride 2022 releases on May 31. The 100+ page annual anthology comic will feature stories on a number of recognizable DC characters, including a personal “Finding Batman” story written by Kevin Conroy, a Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy-centered adventure and much more. “Representation is something that so many take for granted,” Nicole Maines, who played Nia Nal/Dreamer — the first transgender superhero in a live-action adaptation — in CW’s Supergirl, wrote in an introduction to the anthology. “But as queer people, we have always understood not only its necessity, but its power. Seeing yourself in the media you consume is validating in a way that says, ‘You are not alone.’ Seeing yourself in comic books, though, in your favorite superheroes, is especially powerful. It tells us that not only are there other people like us out there (something that this young trans girl growing up in rural Maine desperately needed), but that they stand alongside the very best of us. They are the best of us.”
Along with DC Pride 2022 and the featured variant covers, the publisher will also celebrate Pride Month with a new young adult graphic novel called Galaxy: The Prettiest Star. DC will additionally launch several series and one-shots focusing on LGBTQIA+ characters in June, including Poison Ivy by G. Willow Wilson and Marcio Takara, Nubia: Queen of the Amazons by Stephanie Williams, Alitha Martinez and Mark Morales, DC Pride: Tim Drake Special by Meghan Fitzmartin, Belén Ortega and Alberto Jimenez Alburquerque, and Multiversity: Teen Justice by Ivan Cohen, Danny Lore, Marco Failla and Enrica Eren Angiolini.
DC Pride 2022 releases May 31. Blood Syndicate: Season One #2 releases on June 15, with the new series launching May 10. Robin #15 releases June 28.
