DC and HBO Max’s Titans Celebrate Superhero Day – and Dick Grayson’s Cake

DC and HBO Max are celebrating Superhero Day with Nightwing’s cake—in both senses of the word.

DC Comics and HBO Max celebrated National Superhero Day by honoring Nightwing’s cake—in both senses of the term.

The comic publisher posted a Nightwing appreciation post on Twitter featuring a cake dedicated to the hero’s spandex-clad butt. “Truly a gift for #NationalSuperHeroDay!” the company captioned the photo. HBO Max then joined the fun by sharing a gif of Nightwing in action on Titans. “you don’t get a cake like that just sittin,” it wrote. DC Comic fans have long had an infatuation with Nightwing’s behind. It all started when readers got a glimpse of Nightwing’s rear while he donned his classic disco suit. From there, artists such as Nicola Scott, Brett Booth and Tim Seeley have made sure to shine a light on Nightwing’s asset, turning it into a staple of DC Comics lore and mythology. Barbara Gordon has even noted that Nightwing wears the tightest costume out of the entire Bat Family.

In fact, this is not the first time DC Comics has lured its fans with a Nightwing thirst trap. Valentine’s Day 2021 saw the comic publisher post a video highlighting all of Dick Grayson’s physical features, not just his butt. This was followed by posts from Tom Taylor and Scott, who shared their appreciation for Nightwing’s physique.

Later that year, a debate broke out on TikTok over who had the best butt—Nightwing or Hal Jordan’s Green Lantern. Proponents for each side used comic panels of their respective hero to make the tightest case possible, with Nightwing seemingly coming out on top.

Created by writer Marv Wolfman and artist George Pérez, Nightwing made his debut in Tales of the Teen Titans #44. The character has gone on to play a vital role in the Batman comics and the wider DC Universe and has become a favorite among fans. On TV, he is portrayed by Brenton Thwaites in Titans and is voiced by Jesse McCartney on the animated series Young Justice. While he has also appeared in several animated films—including Son of Batman, Teen Titans: The Judas Contract and Justice League Dark: Apokolips War—he has yet to debut in a live-action movie.
