DBFZ Announces Rollback Netcode Update At Evo 2022
Bandai Namco and Dragon Ball FighterZ producer Tomoko Hiroki announced after the Top 8 finals at Evo 2022 that the game is getting rollback netcode in a future update on PS5, Xbox Series, and PC via Steam. She also specified that they have no further plans for additional characters and that they believe the game has been fine-tuned enough, which means no more balance patches either.
Needless to say, if you’ve clicked on this article in the first place you know how hard the DBFZ community campaigned for rollback netcode implementation. So it’s pretty great to see it happen. In the first place, it’s exciting to see the game is still getting so much support from the developers despite the fact that by today’s gaming industry standards Dragon Ball FighterZ is an “old” game. Arc System Works and Bandai Namco first released the game four years ago in September 2018. And yet we’ve had so many things this year. First there was the World Tour, and now rollback. It’s definitely great to see communities getting heard out and being rewarded for their rallying.
DBFZ Rollback Netcode Announcement: Crowd Reaction At EVO 2022
DBFZ was the final Top 8 game at Evo 2022 Saturday, and it ended quite late (pretty much at 2AM locally) as some of the preceding Top 8 finals games ran for much longer than expected. The DBFZ Top 8 itself too was quite long, and French player Wawa won after a bracket reset. Wawa was also the World Tour champion so it’s great to see France’s 40+ years old history with anime and Dragon Ball getting rep.
We’ve had several brackets resets in the previous Top 8 finals as well so this is was quite a hype Evo day to watch. The DBFZ rollback netcode announcement was the icing on the cake for those who stayed around till the very end of Evo Saturday 2022.
Evo 2022 is still continuing for one final day this Sunday with Top 8 finals for KOF15, Tekken 7, SF5 and Guilty Gear Strive. Personally speaking I’m looking forward to KOF15 the most as it’s the recent fighting game I’m enjoying watching the most nowadays. Just seeing the Mexican players steamroll everything is super cool. The KOF15 Top 8 at Evo this year also features players who illustrated themselves at ICFC Asia so this definitely will be hype. We’re bound to get several more announcements tomorrow as well.
