David de Gea says he is in a ‘contemplative’ mood with speculation surrounding his future at Manchester United continuing to grow.

The United goalkeeper officially runs out of contract at the end of June, though there is the option to extend it for another season, but we are no closer to knowing where he will be playing next season.

The 32-year-old endured a mixed season, winning the Premier League Golden Glove with 17 clean sheets, and lifting the Carabao Cup in February.

However, he also made numerous, high-profile errors and was frequently criticised, most recently in the FA Cup final where he ought to have saved Ilkay Gundogan’s winning goal for Manchester City.

His distribution and on the ball skills have also come under huge scrutiny, with Erik ten Hag repeatedly stating that he wants a keeper whose just as comfortable with his feet as he is with his hands.

As a result, there have been conflicting reports over whether he will stay at Old Trafford or not, with some suggesting he wants to remain with the Red Devils who he joined way back in 2011 and that fresh terms have been agreed over a new contract.

But others claim that his mistakes are causing the club to rethink handing the new deal to the Spaniard after all, but regardless of what happens a new keeper could be signed this summer.

Brentford’s David Raya and Porto’s Diogo Costa have been closely linked but there is much interest in both shot-stoppers.

In the meantime, it seems that De Gea is still pondering over his next move, tweeting out a cryptic message as he enjoys the start of the off-season.

‘Relax. Recharge. Contemplate,’ he wrote, accompanied by a video of him wading through the sea somewhere.

Elsewhere, United have been dealt a huge blow in their pursuit of Napoli defender Kim Min-jae, with PSG now reportedly the frontrunner to sign him.

However, Napoli are attempting to offer the 26-year-old a new contract that will update or remove his £50million release clause that United are hoping to trigger this summer.
