David Arquette: it was ‘cathartic’ to act alongside ex Courteney Cox

David Arquette harbors no ill will towards ex-wife Courteney Cox.

The pair are back in their iconic roles as Dewey Riley and Gale Weathers in the upcoming fifth installment of the “Scream” franchise.

Arquette, 50, spoke to the New York Times about what it was like to be back on set with the “Friends” star, 57.

“It’s a cathartic experience to just be able to act opposite Courteney,” Arquette said. “It’s been 25 years of our lives. We’ve grown up together. We have a child together.”

The actors were married from 1999 until 2013 and share 17-year-old Coco. The duo started dating after meeting during the first “Scream” film in 1996.

Cox and fellow co-star Neve Campbell joined the “Never Been Kissed” star for the interview. Cox chimed in and stated that she saw her ex become very emotional when they started filming the fifth “Scream.”

“He said the next day the crew didn’t look at him,” she recalled.

Arquette added, “I could tell some people aren’t comfortable with that level of emotion.”

Arquette appeared on Late Night With Seth Meyers back in November, where he couldn’t help but gush over Cox and their late “Scream” director Wes Craven.

“Thank God for [director] Wes Craven because I got a baby out of it,” he joked at the time. He thanked the horror master for casting Cox back in the mid-’90s.

The new installment will find Dewey, Gale and Campbell’s Sidney Prescott as they return to their hometown of Woodsboro, California, to uncover a series of murders by the infamous Ghostface killer.
