Dancing On Ice’s Sally Dynevor speaks out on husband’s help during cancer battle

Sally Dynevor, 58, couldn’t help but gush over her husband Tim Dynevor, and how supportive he was during her cancer battle. The Coronation Street star, who is currently featuring in this year’s series of Dancing On Ice, discovered she had breast cancer in 2009 but said she felt “very lucky” to have the support of her loved ones, even though it was one of the toughest points in her life.

She revealed that Tim, a scriptwriter for rival soap Emmerdale, made her treatment feel like a “positive time”.

In a new interview, Sally praised her partner, who she has been married to for 27 years and shares three children with, including Bridgerton’s Phoebe Dynevor.

She said: “I was very lucky during that time of having cancer, because my husband is really strong.

“He would say, we’re going to make this into a positive time.

“I’d just found out I’d got breast cancer and Harriet was only little, five or six.

“She was looking at me while my hair was being shaved and she was telling me how beautiful I was and how much she loved me.

“And I just remember thinking, my God, this is a very special moment.”

Her diagnosis came as she was doing research for her Corrie character’s own cancer battle.

Speaking on Loose Women back in 2020, Sally admitted that it came as the “biggest shock”, and that she would never have got her breasts checked if it wasn’t for the storyline.

She said: “The hardest thing for me was that life was imitating art.

“There was an afternoon where I just thought I’d got and check to see if I was okay… I just had a little feel and I could feel something really tiny.

“[Then] I remember telling my fellow cast members; it was the hardest thing I’ve ever done. And having to tell my children – that was really hard.”

She added: “But the one thing I want to say is that it’s really important we know the signs and symptoms of breast cancer. We all have to check.”

Sally underwent treatment at The Christie and after a six-month break she returned to the ITV soap, where actor and character went on to make full recoveries.
