Dagenham & Redbridge need to ‘keep getting better’ says McMahon
Dagenham & Redbridge boss Daryl McMahon says they need to ‘keep getting better’ in their quest for promotion from the National League.
Daggers welcome fourth-placed Woking to Victoria Road this weekend, having moved to the brink of the play-off places with victory at Maidstone United on Monday.
That left McMahon’s men in eighth place, behind Eastleigh and Southend on goal difference only but with games in hand on both.
And the boss wants them to maintain their momentum, having taken 16 points from a possible 21 since defeat at Halifax Town.
“We’re in a good position but that’s all it is. We have to just get ready for the next game,” he told the club website.
“There’s going to be ups and downs as well, we have to just stay focused, keep doing what we’re doing, and keep growing and keep getting better.
“We’ve had people out injured and we’ve got people back and a more settled team now and that obviously helps.
“It helps when you’re not changing your team every week because of injury or suspension.
“We’re now changing one player, maybe two players, because of performance rather than anything that’s out of our control so that helps.
“The team is confident and we’re enjoying our football at the moment. We know we’ve got a long way to go, many big games to come, and we’re looking forward to the next one against Woking.”
Daggers had beaten Maidstone on Boxing Day thanks to a Myles Weston effort and goalscorer turned provider in the return with a superb cross from the left as Josh Walker headed home an 83rd-minute winner on the 3G surface at the Gallagher Stadium to complete a quickfire double.
McMahon praised his side’s display adding: “I think it was a very, very good performance.
“I can’t think of every performance right now off the top of my head but I think the amount of clear-cut chances we created today was obvious.
“We had a lot of one-v-ones and a lot of good football as well I thought on what is not an easy surface to play.
“We know that Maidstone have picked up more points at home than they have away, we know they’re fighting for their lives where they are as well and we’ve only played them recently as well so it makes it all a little bit harder, but I thought our performance was very good.”
Daggers are set to visit Aldershot Town on Tuesday and McMahon hailed their travelling supporters once again, saying: “They were amazing today. I thought they were absolutely terrific.
“I’ve said this before, when we’ve travelled, when we spoke about highlights of 2022, things that come to my mind straight away is them away games at Southend and when you go away from home and have big backing.
“I thought they were awesome today. I’m glad we got that win for them as well.”
