Dad slams school holiday rules list
Parents are split over a list of school holiday rules for kids after it was shared online — while some celebrated the concept, others were angered by it.
A “school holiday rules” list posted to an Aussie Facebook group has caused quite the stir online.
The post that was shared to Mum Central’s page — a leading parenting network in Australia with more than 700,000 members — explains what kids need to get done in order to “earn” unlimited screen time each day.
It includes making their beds, having breakfast, brushing their hair and teeth and getting dressed first.
The kids also have to “help someone in the family”with any chores that need to be done.
They also need to undertake 20 minutes of reading and 20 minutes or writing or colouring.
They are also required to get creative and make something using Lego, craft or sand.
The list was re-posted on Mum Central, along with the comment they would be “hitting print” on the mum’s rules.
The post has since attracted hundreds of comments and while many are all for it, adding that they “love” the idea, others insisted the list had gone “too far”.
“Yea, nah. Holidays for us are winging it with no fun police. We take each day as it comes, one mum wrote.
“It’s called holidays for a reason,” another mum added.
A dad described the lost as “stupid” writing, “let the kids have a vacation”.
“Do you do all of these things on your vacation before you pick up your phone?” he continued.
Many parents disagreed with the opposing views, saying they adopt a similar system.
“We have very similar rules, it works well for us. Ours is for weekends & school holidays,” one mum commented.
“This has come a few weeks too late for us but we will be using them on the next holiday,” said another.
“I think this is great, otherwise they get addicted to screens and you can’t get them to do anything else,” a third parent added.
One mum said her kids love schedules and routines “so we have one for every day – not just for the holidays”.
The post was quick to attract a lot of attention and has already been shared more than 145 times.
