Dad reveals how to see if your flight will be delayed before airline tells you

A DAD has revealed a clever way to find out if your flight has been delayed or cancelled – before the airline even tells you.

Travelling with Jetstar with his family, he explained on Facebook how he found out his flight was likely to be delayed.

He explained how he used the websites FlightRadar24 and Flightstats to look at the history of his route from Melbourne to Singapore, as they show previous flights.

He said, according to 7news.au: “Take some time to check the flight history and make a plan B if possible.

“My original booking was September 29, JQ7 from Melbourne to Singapore.

“Yesterday when I was preparing our stuff for next week’s flight, I checked the history of this flight on FlightRadar24 and Flightstats.

“Oh man, I was shocked … the flight was DELAYED MORE THAN 10 HOURS EVERY DAY SINCE AUGUST, with some flights cancelled.

“Flightstats rated the JQ7 zero stars for the on-time performance.”

The dad said that after noticing this, he booked another flight instead, and requested a cancellation and refund from the previous airline.

He added that it was his first family holiday since the pandemic and said he wouldn’t “take the risk to ruin it”.

You can also use FlightRader24, a free website, to keep your kids entertained too.

Parents can click on the location toggle to see which planes are flying directly overhead at that time.

You can even tell them what kind of plane it is and where it came from.

In previous years, pilots have also used the clever app to write messages in the sky with their flight routes.

In 2016, a pilot wrote hello after flying over Hamburg in a private plane, as well as a heart and giant flower.

And in 2020, a pilot drew a massive penis in the sky while waiting to land at Bremen Airport in Germany.

Just before the pandemic, the busiest day of air traffic ever was reported by FlightRadar24, which shows 202,000 flights in one day, with as many as 19,000 in the air at the same time.
