Dad and kids ‘traumatised’ after brick wall crushes car during Storm Franklin

A dad and his young children were left ‘traumatised’ after their car was crushed when the wall of a derelict building collapsed amid strong winds,

Firefighters responded to the incident in Washington Street, Bolton, at about 4.15pm today (February 20).

Pictures from the scene show a pile of bricks on top of the car, a short distance from Amir Khan’s luxury wedding venue.

A father and his three young children were inside the car at the time.

All four escaped uninjured, it has been confirmed.

The man, who asked not to be named, said he had just parked up to visit a nearby takeaway when the wall collapsed.

“The whole wall came straight on top of the car,” he said.

“It was fully covered with bricks. They came through the windows in the back of the car where my daughters were too.

“My kids were panicking and traumatised.

“It’s a blessing that we came out alive.”

A cordon was erected around the damaged car following the incident, which came as Storm Franklin hit Greater Manchester on Sunday (February 20).

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said: “At around 4.15pm this afternoon (Sunday 20 February) we received a report that part of a wall of a derelict building had collapsed onto a car on Washington Street, Bolton.

“One fire engine from Bolton North fire station was quickly at the scene.

“No injuries were reported, and firefighters made the area safe before departing after around half an hour.”
