Cyndi Lauper’s son Declyn arrested after cops found him inside stolen car
Cyndi Lauper’s son, Declyn Lauper, was arrested after he was found by cops inside a stolen vehicle.
Declyn – who is also a musician – was arrested at approximately 1:40am on Thursday, July 14, when he was taken into custody.
The 24-year-old rapper – who boasts an Instagram following of two million – was found in the driver’s seat of an illegally double-parked Mercedes.
Declyn – full name Declyn Wallace Thornton Lauper – is the only child of the Girls Just Want To Have Fun hitmaker, whom she shares with husband David Thornton, after the pair married in 1991.
NYPD confirmed his arrest to Metro.co.uk, stating that ‘at West 140 Street and Broadway, within the confines of the 30 Precinct, police observed a 2014 Mercedes Benz C350 illegally double-parked at the location.’
Officers conducted a computer check and investigation on the car’s registration plates, before determining that the vehicle was stolen.
Declyn’s was then taken to a nearby police station and his official charge was ‘unauthorised use of a vehicle.’
Additionally, according to TMZ, NYPD officers discovered that the Mercedes in question was reported as stolen two years ago.
Declyn – who performs under the stage name Dex Lauper – is said to have been released with a desk appearance ticket to return to court at a later date.
The musician was exposed to life in the public eye as a youngster, due to his mother’s fame and success with her own hits.
He was often brought along to A-list events and red carpets and the duo still enjoy walking red carpets together, most recently posing at the VMAs in September 2021.
The son of the Time After Time artist followed in her footsteps, and now has songs including Wavy, Blinds, and Special Vibe, under his name.
Cyndi has previously shared that her son is very mature, recalling a time when he called her out for swearing on live TV, in a chat with Closer in 2018.
‘He said, “What dad always says that if you don’t curse when it’s not important, you won’t curse when it is”,’ Cyndi shared.
‘And I was thinking, “f**k eah”. No, I’m kidding, no, no, I’m thinking, “I know, Dex. I know, it was a long day, you know”. It’s hard to be me.’
Reps for Cyndi Lauper have been contacted for comment.
