Cyberpunk 2077 on PS5 to release by March suggests new leak

The PlayStation Store’s database contains information on Cyberpunk 2077, which may point to a release window for the upgraded version.

Even long after it finally released, Cyberpunk 2077 remains plagued by delays. The native PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S versions were supposed to be out by the end of 2021, but CD Projekt decided it’d be best to push them to 2022, along with the DLC.

An official release date was never given, but the PlayStation Game Size Twitter account is theorising that it could be out in only a month’s time, from either mid-February to early March.

The account monitors updates to the PlayStation Store’s database, which has recently been updated with information regarding Cyberpunk 2077’s PlayStation 5 version. It doesn’t provide an exact date, but it’s addition likely means it and, by extension the Xbox Series X/S version, is releasing relatively soon.

This would line up with CD Projekt’s own comments, as it previously said the two versions were slated for the first quarter of the year. So, January to March.

If accurate, however, CD Projekt will be releasing it an already busy period of major game releases, going up against Dying Light 2, Elden Ring, and Horizon Forbidden West.

All these games will be demanding players’ attention and offer potentially hundreds of hours of content. Which is going to be difficult for something that’s not an entirely new release.

While it would have avoided this by releasing in 2021, the decision to delay was no doubt influenced by Cyberpunk 2077’s infamously poor launch, with the game proving almost unplayable on the base Xbox One and PlayStation 4.

The public backlash was so severe that CD Projekt offered refunds to disgruntled customers, the game was temporarily delisted from the PlayStation Store, and the company’s own investors filed a lawsuit against it after CD Projekt’s stock dropped.

Cyberpunk 2077 is now freely available to download on PlayStation again and the aforementioned lawsuit has been resolved, so things can arguably only get better for the game and CD Projekt, which no doubt hopes its shambolic launch will become a faded memory.

Cyberpunk 2077 is currently available for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PC, and Stadia.
