Cute moment Bindi Irwin’s daughter Grace recognises grandfather Steve in photo
Bindi Irwin captured the moment her baby daughter recognised her late grandfather, Steve Irwin, just from a photo.
Conservationist and TV personality Steve, who was nicknamed the Crocodile Hunter, died in September 2006 at the age of 44. He was pierced in the chest by a stingray while filming a documentary in Batt Reef, Queensland.
Bindi, now 24, was just eight years old at the time and, now all grown up, has gone on to become a mum herself to 16-month-old daughter Grace Warrior, who she shares with husband Chandler Powell.
In her latest Instagram post, the Crikey! It’s The Irwins star shared an adorable video of her fun day out at Australia Zoo with little Grace.
The tot is seen excitedly running along before spotting posters of her grandfather Steve, wearing a construction hat, pinned against railings.
‘Do you see him? Is he over here?’ Bindi directed her daughter.
She then asked: ‘Do you love Grandpa Crocodile?’ to which Grace replied: ‘Yeah!’
Grace looked to be in awe of Steve and kept running back and forth between the photos before giving him one final wave.
Bindi told the toddler: ‘I love you, sweetheart! Grandpa Crocodile loves you too!’
She captioned the post: ‘We have a little construction going on to make our Tasmanian devil habitat @australiazoo even more beautiful. Grace’s favourite part? Visiting Grandpa Crocodile. All the love.’
Bindi’s husband Chandler commented: ‘Her little wave gets me everytime.’
Despite her young age, Bindi recently opened up about how Grace has become mesmerised by her grandfather through watching his old TV shows.
‘We have so many documentaries of Dad, and we’re always playing them for Grace,” Bindi shared. “It’s so fun to watch her study him,’ Bindi told People in May.
‘I didn’t realise how much Dad’s passion for life and his animated facial expressions — I mean, they captivate her.’
