Cut-price new family SUV has arrived
Families on the hunt for a feature packed and safe new car that won’t break the bank now have another option with this Toyota RAV4 rival.
The emerging Chinese brand – which is the SUV offshoot of Great Wall Motors (GWM) – has debuted its new H6 Vanta special edition.
Based on the top-spec Ultra variant the H6 Vanta brings plenty of equipment at a sharp price of $39,990 drive-away in two-wheel drive guise. All-wheel drive costs an extra $2000.
This is about the same price as a base Toyota RAV4.
There is plenty to like about the H6 Vanta. It has chunky, handsome styling, big black 19-inch alloy wheels and plenty of bold colour options.
Inside there is a big 12.3-inch central touchscreen paired with a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster.
Heated and ventilated seats are wrapped in faux leather and there are other goodies such as a power tailgate, panoramic sunroof and a head-up display.
Safety items include auto emergency braking, lane-keep assist and rear cross-traffic alert with auto braking function. The Haval will also park automatically.
All versions are powered by a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine making 150kW and 320Nm, paired to a seven-speed dual-clutch auto.
To ease any quality concerns surrounding the emerging brand, GWM backs its vehicles with a seven-year/unlimited km warranty. This is combined with a five-year capped price servicing program.
Only 1000 examples of the Vanta will be available in Australia.
Haval is one of the Chinese brands taking Australia by storm. Its sales are up 250 per cent on 2020, albeit off a low base.
MG is another Chinese brand making waves – its sales are up more than 150 per cent and it is now one of the 10 most popular car makers in Australia.
