Crystal Palace offer Wilfried Zaha ‘huge’ contract to keep him at club

The Ivorian has scored 67 goals for the Eagles over his two spells with the club, and despite leaving briefly to join Manchester United in 2013, has been a fan favourite at Selhurst Park ever since.

Since his return to Palace, it has felt like Zaha has been destined to move away from south London a few times.

The winger has handed in his fair share of transfer requests over the years, and has countlessly been linked with top clubs around the country, and even the world.

But now it is looking more likely than ever that Zaha will actually depart from Crystal Palace this year. Zaha is out of contract in the summer, and there are plenty of clubs that are reportedly interested in securing his services.

According to The Guardian, Palace have offered Zaha a four-year contract worth over £10 million per season. Zaha’s current deal was five years long and worth £130,000 a week, with this new deal reportedly worth over £60,000 more per week.

It would make him the highest paid player in the club’s history if he was to sign it.

Zaha turns 31 later this year. If he signs the new deal it would keep him at the club until 2027, when he will be 34.

But the winger may look to take his talents to another club, for what will be the last big contract of his career. But who could he go to?

Arsenal have been reportedly interested in Zaha for a number of years.

Arsenal, who were Zaha’s boyhood club, have never been more interested in Zaha than in the summer of 2019, but they ended up signing fellow Ivorian winger Nicolas Pepe instead.

There are constant rumours about Zaha joining Arsenal and he may well choose to do so if he doesn’t accept Palace’s contract offer in the summer, although at the age of 30 he would be older than the majority of players the Gunners have looked to sign in recent years.

Over the last month there have been constant links between Zaha and Saudi Arabian club Al-Ittihad.

Reportedly, Zaha would earn up to £9million a season in Saudi Arabia, but the Ivorian winger is said to be set to reject that proposal, as he wants to continue playing in one of the world’s best leagues.

According to Sky Bet, Zaha currently has the best odds of joining Chelsea when his contract expires.

The Sun have reported that Zaha would prefer to stay in London, which would suggest Arsenal and Chelsea would be two of the favourites to sign him.

Fabrizio Romano has said that there are as many as eight or nine clubs interested in Zaha, but the Palace man is expected to delay his decision on his future until the end of the season.

Zaha is nearing a return from an injury that he sustained in Palace’s victory against Leicester at the beginning of April.

He was originally expected to return on April 29, and today (April 28) manager Roy Hodgson has confirmed that Zaha has been involved in training throughout this week, so perhaps a strong end to the season can convince him to stay at Selhurst Park.
