Crime suspect ‘punched officer and tried to grab Taser’

A violent and abusive man allegedly tried to grab a police Taser as officers detained him following an incident at Manchester’s Victoria Station.

He also punched one officer in the struggle, police said, but officers managed to prevent him from getting hold of the disabling weapon.

Officers from Greater Manchester Police’s Transport Unit were called to the scene after the man became aggressive and abused other passengers, Manchester Metrolink staff and Transport for Greater Manchester workers, the unit reported on its Twitter account.

He had refused to leave the station when requested to do so because of his conduct, the unit said.

The man was in custody this morning (Monday, January 24).
