CPM Kolkata suspends Anil Biswas’s daughter Ajanta Biswas for 6 months

Biswas, who is a professor of History at the Rabindra Bharati University and is a member of the party’s teachers’ unit. She is also a primary member of the CPI-M Kolkata Committee.

She wrote about the role of women power in Bengal’s politics, including the women of the pre-Independence and post-Independence periods. Biswas also wrote about Mamata Banerjee, her political career and how she carved out a political space for herself.

The area committee of the party has proposed to the Kolkata district committee about their recommendations to suspend Biswas for three months. The Kolkata district committee took a final call in its meeting on August 21 and it her suspension was decided, party sources.

However, Biswas could not be reached by ET despite repeated calls.

Members of the district committee have almost unanimously agreed on the decision of suspension but the period was finalised during the meeting on July 21, a Kolkata committee sources said.

“Jago Bangla” is the mouthpiece of Mamata Banerjee’s party which has recently turned from a weekly to a daily on July 21. A two-segment article written by Ajanta Biswas appeared in the daily edition of “Jago Bangla” after it turned into a weekly.

Biswas, in her article, praised how Mamata Banerjee carved out her own place in the political space which has been dominated by men and highlighted her role in the mass movements of Singur and Nandigram.

CPI(M) Bengal leadership was unhappy about Biswas’s decision who had not sought the party’s permission before agreeing to write it for Jago Bangla.

Biswas had not been active in Bengal politics since her student years at the Presidency College and Calcutta University, but retained primary party membership.
