CPI-M Polit Bureau inducts new faces in the central committee
Ram Chandra Dome from West Bengal has become the first Dalit leader to be in the Politburo, the highest decision-making body of the CPI-M. The newly appointed Bengal state secretary Mohammed Salim is also part of the politburo, apart from Nilotpal Basu.
Biman Bose has been allowed to retire from the Polit Bureau. However, he will remain as an invited member of the Politburo.
Shamik Lahiri, who is party’s South 24 Parganas district President, and former Diamond Harbour MP, has been inducted in the central Committee. Debolina Hembram, who is known as a gutsy leader of the party, is an eloquent speaker, and represents the tribal community. Hembram was also a minister in the Left Front government in Bengal.
Another new central committee member, Sumit De, is CPI-M’s Nadia district President for four times, and has been inducted in the
politburo for the first time.
Meanwhile, CPI-M General Secretary Sitaram Yechury has been re-elected as the general secretary along with a 17-member politburo and an 85-member central committee during the 23rd party Congress. Yechury will continue in the post for a third term. This was announced at the party’s 23rd party Congress venue on Sunday.
