Cowboys fans threw trash at, booed Dak Prescott after injury

Cowboys fans are brutal.

As Dak Prescott exited the field with a hand injury in the fourth quarter of Sunday’s eventual 19-3 loss to the Buccaneers, Dallas fans booed their quarterback, while at least one spectator appeared to toss trash in his direction.

In viral videos captured by fans at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, Prescott can be seen running off the field as something was tossed near the players’ tunnel.

Prescott suffered a clean fracture of his throwing thumb, and said he will undergo surgery on Monday. Owner Jerry Jones told reporters after the game that the quarterback will miss at least several weeks and ESPN.com reported a 6-8 week timetable.

Prescott and the Cowboys offense sputtered against Tampa Bay. He completed 14 of 29 passes for 134 yards and an interception.

Although Prescott said the injury is “very disappointing,” he remained positive about the Cowboys’ season.

“Yeah, it’s unfortunate, but I’ll do what I’ve always done any time adversity comes. Take it on headfirst, give it my best, and I’m sure I’ll come out of this thing better,” the seven-year veteran said.

Prescott was pictured leaving his postgame press conference with a brace on his right thumb.

Cooper Rush will be Dallas’ starting quarterback while Prescott is out.

Prescott’s latest injury came nearly two years after the quarterback suffered a season-ending compound fracture of his right ankle on the same field in Week 5 of the 2020 season. The injury also followed Prescott’s “clean-up” surgery on his left non-throwing shoulder in March.

The Cowboys host the Bengals in Week 2.
