‘Couldn’t kick’: Extent of Reynolds’ injury revealed

The South Sydney Rabbitohs are adamant veteran halfback Adam Reynolds will be fit for next week’s grand final despite nursing a groin injury during the Rabbitohs’ thumping win over Manly.

Reynolds tonight was forced to give up the goal-kicking duties to young gun Blake Taaffe.

The 31-year-old – who is bound for the Broncos next season – revealed after the game that he had suffered a groin injury during the week.

Coach Wayne Bennett revealed he and Reynolds “took the risk” to play tonight despite fears the halfback wouldn’t be fit to go.

“He had an injury he was pretty close to not playing,” Bennett said after the match.

“I think what he couldn’t do was kick. We didn’t know if he would get through the game either.

“We took the risk and we managed to pull it off.”

Reynolds said he didn’t want anything to stop him from being out there with his squad.

“I wanted to be out there tonight with the team,” Reynolds replied.

“There was a little moment in the changerooms, where we sort of looked at each other, but I wasn’t seriously going to miss the game.”

Asked if Reynolds would need to manage the injury throughout the week, Bennett replied, “no.”

“He’s got nine days of recovery. He will be fine.”
