Corrie’s Tony Maudsley fumes over ‘madness’ of Boris’ honours list

Coronation Street actor Tony Maudsley, 55, has called for the “madness to stop” on social media today after seeing the list of politicians from Boris Johnson’s government that have been nominated for honours by the former Prime Minister, 58.

Taking to Twitter, Tony fumed about the controversial honours list from Boris, which saw Jacob Rees-Mogg and Priti Patel given a knighthood and a damehood respectively.

In view of his 96,200 followers, the ITV star wrote: “Dame Priti Patel? Sir Jacob Rees Mogg???

“JESUS CHRIST!!!” he continued angrily. “This madness needs to stop!

“Anyone offered a Knighthood or Damehood from this point on would do well to chuck them right back in their faces.

“Why not give all MPs knighthoods (and their dog walkers) as an extra perk? They are meaningless now.” (sic)

Tony is best known for his portrayal of hairdresser Kenneth Du Beke in the hit ITV sitcom Benidorm – and for his character George Shuttleworth in Corrie, which he joined in 2020.

The actor’s comments come after Boris’ long-awaited resignation honours list was revealed today, sparking outrage due to it including many MPs who were serving during the Partygate scandal.

MP Conor Burns, who claimed he was “ambushed by cake” at the now infamous Downing Street party, was given a knighthood despite being fined for attending the event.

Other names on the list include Tory Tees Valley Mayor Ben Houchen and former London mayoral candidate Shaun Bailey, who have both been given peerages.

Senior Aide Martin Reynolds, who invited people into the Downing Street garden for drinks, also made the list and was given a Companion of the Bath gong for “public service”.
