The fight will be the penultimate one of the MMA superstar’s contract with the UFC, but he insists he won’t be walking away from the sport anytime soon.

In response to a tweet about a potential rematch with Max Holloway, the Irishman tweeted: “I’m never retiring so we defo fighting, lad.”

Fan favourites McGregor and Holloway, 34 and 31 respectively, locked horns with one another ten years ago in Boston.

The UFC’s poster boy came out of the featherweight showdown victorious thanks to a unanimous decision victory, although he didn’t come out unscathed as he tore his ACL in his left knee.

McGregor’s comeback clash with Chandler is set to be his first outing since suffering a horrific leg break in his trilogy fight with Dustin Poirier in July 2021.

And he hopes it will kickstart a return to activity – which he was loved for during his unforgettable run to the featherweight title.

He told Barstool Sports: “What do I hope for in this world?

“I hope for 100 fights. I hope for 100 more fights. I’m working for consistency.

“I’ve been having this on, off, on, off nonsense for too long.

“Via fight politics, via injuries, via just life. It does happen.

“It’s God’s plan. It’s all God, so I accept and understand it.

“But I’m excited and hopeful that I can get a nice consecutive run of bouts.”

The date for McGregor’s eagerly-anticipated showdown with Chandler has yet to be announced.

That’s because McGregor is not yet back in the United States Anti-Doping Agency’s testing pool – which he must be in for a minimum of six months before being eligible to compete.

But a few weeks after launching a scathing attack on USADA, the Dubliner seemingly hinted that he’s in the pool.

The former two-division champion tweeted: “I am long in the pool.”
