Condom, lube and wax strip sales rocket as Covid restrictions ease

SALES of condoms, lube and intimate hair removers rocketed as Brits celebrated shafting Covid — by romping with each other.

After sex dried up during lockdown, they made up for lost time when restrictions were eased.

Durex condoms, KY lubricants and Veet hair removal products saw sales shoot up by nearly a fifth towards the end of last year, according to hygiene giant Reckitt.

Sales of its sex products also rose impressively in China, the US and India.

Sexpert Lacey Haynes said: “Now that we’re on top of Covid, people can finally get out there and get on top of each other again.

It’s no wonder Reckitt has experienced a rise in sales of all their intimate products.

It’s an exciting time where people feel lit up again and ready to hook up.

“Lockdown was a time where sex in long-term relationships took a nosedive and where hooking up was off the cards. People are now experiencing a freedom they’ve been craving for two years.”

The end of lockdown also had an effect on the non-sexy products made by the firm, based in Slough, Berkshire.

An increase in germ ­mingling triggered a rise in cold and flu treatments such as Strepsils and Lemsip.

But Dettol suffered a sales slide compared with 2020, when more Brits than ever were deep-cleaning their homes amid the pandemic.
