Gold Cup 2021: Tournament format
The Gold Cup tournament unfolds in a similar fashion to other continental tournaments around the world, with a group stage followed by knockout rounds:
Group stage: The 16 national teams are split into four groups. Each team will play three matches as part of round-robin competition. The top two finishers in each group will advance to the quarterfinals.
Knockout rounds: The eight teams that advance from the group stage are paired in predetermined quarterfinal matchups based on their finish in the group. A fixed bracket of single-elimination quarterfinal and semifinal matches will leave two teams standing for the final on Sunday, Aug. 1, in Las Vegas.
