Commonwealth Games, Day 1 Live Updates: Table tennis event is also about to get underway and first up is women’s team event which will see  Manika Batra, Sreeja Akula, Reeth Rishya, and Diya Chitale squaring off against South Africa. India’s campaign at the Commonweath Games in underway with the lawn bowls event. Currently, in men’s triples Section A Round 1 lawn bowls event, India are squaring off against New Zealand while in women’s singles Group B Round 1 event, Tania Choudhary is squaring off against Scotland’s Dee Hoggan. On the opening day of the mega event, many Indian stars would be seen in action in Birmingham. The women’s cricket team will square off against Australia while the women’s hockey team will face Ghana. The mixed badminton team would also be in action in the evening. In terms of boxing, Shiva Thapa, Sumit Kundu, Ashish Kumara and Rohit Tokas have their bouts lined up for today. The opening day can go a long way in setting a good tone for the Indian contingent in the event.
