Netflix’s Colin in Black and White is the latest biographical drama released on the streaming platform, which details the former years of NFL star Colin Kaepernick.

The coming-of-age docudrama, directed by Ava DuVernay and Michael Starrbury, consists of Kaepernick narration in addition to his witty voiceover to scenes as they unfold, through Jaden Michael’s performance as young Colin.

Throughout the series, Kaepernick takes viewers on a retrospective journey through his formative years as a teenager with big dreams in a prejudicial community.

The Netflix show made its debut on Friday morning, and fans have taken to Twitter praising the football star and everyone involved in the six-part series.

One user said: ‘I have goosebumps right now watching the first minutes of Colin in Black and White.’

Another joined in agreement and said: ’78 seconds into it and I can already say go watch Colin in Black and White.’

Netflix describes the show as a ‘bold new limited series that chronicles Kaepernick’s coming of age story, tackling the obstacles of race, class, and culture as the Black adopted child of a white family,’ which sees Nick Offerman and Mary-Louise Parker playing Colin’s well-meaning but racially-insensitive parents Rick and Teresa.

The series promises to guide viewers through a robust and colorfully presented array of historical and contemporary contextual moments.

Safe to say it’s done just that so far!

Filmmaker Ava recently expressed her joy over working with Kaepernick to Metro.co.uk.

She said: ‘There were so many stories that he told that Michael Starrbury and I put in something you can view and enjoy and watch in a TV show.

‘One of them was about the first episode which was about hair and black people, who are challenged by a society who really wants to control our hair.

‘This is historical, this goes back centuries in terms of the resistance that our hair represents, and the social control that happens through requirements, curiosity, and fear about our hair, something that grows naturally for us.’

Colin in Black and White is available to stream on Netflix.
