Coastal town where Princess Kate and Prince William met is ‘just beautiful’
Kate and William’s paths first crossed in 2001 when they were both students at the University of St Andrews, located in the charming coastal town of St Andrews in Fife, Scotland.
According to global education platform Erudera.com St Andrews is the third oldest university in the UK, and “holds a special significance as the alma mater of the royal couple, Kate and William”.
Founded in 1413, the university has a long-standing reputation for academic excellence, making it one of the most sought-after institutions in the UK.
It was during their time as students at St Andrew’s that “the romance between Kate and William blossomed, eventually leading to their highly anticipated royal wedding”.
Kate studied art history and Prince William pursued a Master of Arts degree in geography, where he met his future wife, Catherine Middleton.
Experts at Erudera.com explained: “According to rumours, William was fascinated by Kate’s charm and beauty when he saw her modelling at a student fashion show for charity.
“The story goes that he even paid £200 for a front-row seat, showcasing his genuine interest and admiration for the young woman who would later capture his heart.”
Fife, in Scotland, is a region “filled with historic wonders, charming coastal villages and picture-perfect beauty spots,” Visit Scotland explained. Some of the most beautiful seaside towns are Crail Harbour, Pittenweem, St Monans and St Andrews.
In the beautiful seaside town of St Andrews, holidaymakers can visit St Andrews Cathedral, which once was the largest church in Scotland.
St Andrews Castle was a bishop’s palace during medieval times, a fortress and a state prison, and is now a “must-see” in town.
One of the best beaches is St Andrews West Sands Beach, where the famous film Chariots of Fire was filmed.
A visitor reviewed the beach on Tripadvisor and said that “however many times you go back, the beach is absolutely stunning, miles of golden sand with the backdrop for the old course”.
Another opined that West Sands Beach is “just beautiful”. They added: “What’s not to love, this beach stretches on for miles. Great for an early morning stroll.”
The University of St Andrews, where Kate and William met, can also be visited, and the student-lead tours are reportedly “outstanding”.
