Clever hack to stop you losing precious items between your car seat and console
A HACK costing just 94p can save you hundreds while driving.
Valuable items such as rings and keys are often lost in the gap between the driver’s seat and console – but just one item could stop this from happening forever.
The Family Handyman website has now offered a useful hack using a piece of foam pipe insulation to prevent this happening.
Many of us find ourselves frustrated hunting under our car seats to find an item, such as our phone or keys, that has fallen down the side of the seat.
James Goldstein, on Family Handyman, said: “I kept dropping things such as my keys or cell phone in the gap between the driver’s seat and the console in my car.
“It is tough to retrieve the items dropped in that space because the gap is so small and my hand doesn’t fit.”
Mr Goldstein said he often resorted to using sticks or wire hangers to pull items out which only caused more inconvenience.
“I cut pieces of foam pipe insulation to the length of the gaps, and then I wedged them in the gaps on either side of the console,” he said.
“Nothing falls into the gaps anymore!” He added.
Foam insulation pipe can be bought for less than £1 from stores such as Screwfix making this a super affordable hack.
It is also fast and simple to cut and takes only seconds to fit into the gap.
Another car hack that costs less than a pound and could save you hundreds involves items you already have in your kitchen cupboard.
The cleaning tip is to help keep your car headlights in good condition, especially in the run-up to winter.
UV rays from the sun cause oxidisation to happen to your headlights causing them to look foggy and tinged yellow.
With the nights becoming darker earlier in autumn and winter it’s important your headlights are bright enough.
Take half a lemon and sprinkle baking soda on top of it and use it to scrub away any dirt and oxidisation on your headlights.
This should leave your headlights in a good condition for the darker nights.
It’s likely you’ll already have what you need lying around at home but you’ll be able to pick it up for less than £1 if you don’t.
Branded headlight cleaners cost many times more and new headlight units can cost £100s to buy and have fitted.
