Cleary caught up in NSW trio’s alleged border breach

The NRL Integrity Unit will hold talks with Penrith superstar Nathan Cleary after three men from New South Wales were allegedly seen partying in Queensland following the Panthers’ grand final win over South Sydney.

According to Queensland Police, it’s alleged the three men used “incorrect border passes” to cross the border on the Pacific Highway last Saturday, the day before the grand final in Brisbane.

The Sydney Morning Herald is now reporting that the NRL is investigating links between the Panthers and the three men, who are aged 23, 24 and 25.

The men were allegedly pictured on social media joining in on the Panthers’ celebrations.

Queensland Police said the trio had attended the grand final at Suncorp Stadium and have each been fined $4135 “for breaching the Chief Health Officer Directions and have since left” the state.

The SMH says that an NRL spokesperson confirmed to them that the unit would speak to Cleary regarding the matter.

There is no suggestion Cleary knew about the men’s alleged border breach.

It comes as the NRL also plans to speak to the club regarding The Provan-Summons trophy, which arrived back in Sydney today for repairs.

Nine News confirmed the NRL is upset the sculptures of Norm Provan and Arthur Summons were separated from the base of the trophy and placed in a pram during the club’s grand final celebrations.
