The interior of the 1982 Zakspeed Capri RS2800 T features Scheel seats finished in Shark Grey crushed velour trim – and an RS steering wheel.

Described as the “rarest” of cars, it was conceived early in 1980 by the Ford Motorsport Performance Vehicles Program.

The initial idea was to build 200 units powered by the 2,300cc V6, but the success of the 2.8-litre engine changed the final specification.

Auction house Silverstone Auctions revealed: “Ford Limited Editions don’t come much rarer than the Zakspeed Turbo Capri making this 32,000 miles, two-owner car rather special.”

The car also has an extensive history file, as the auction house explained it was based on the 3.0S, but with widened Series-X bodywork, front and rear ‘Ford Motorsport’ badged spoilers, and deep 7.5j four-spoke RS (Ronel) alloy wheels.

The file contains several magazines featuring the Capri as well as copies of letters from Ford Europe outlining the original plan and execution of the Zakspeed Capri run to Ford luminary Bob Lutz and others.

Silverstone Auctions described the car’s history: “Zakspeed Capris were only available through the European Ford RS Dealer network and this example was ordered by its first UK owner in 1982 and supplied by dealer Autohaus Holbelt.

“It was subsequently acquired by our vendor in 1988 and has been cossetted by him ever since.”

When the Ford Capri came out in 1980, its price was £11,999 – which is £31,700 in today’s money.

This comes after a classic Mini tucked away in a dusty garage for 33 years has been sold for an eye-watering amount at auction.

Plus, a rare Mini that was abandoned in a shed for decades has sold for more than £52,000 at auction.

Meanwhile, another classic Ford Capri in immaculate condition is up for sale for almost £60,000.

The 1987 2.8i Injection model has only covered 2,362 miles from new and has an extensive history file, along with the original spare key and handbook.
