She kept it for six years, before selling it on.

The sought-after Series 2 model is one of just 776 of the sporty convertible built in right-hand drive.

Despite being more than fifty years old, the car has racked up just 102,000 miles and comes with MOTs dating back to the ’70s.

The logbook, showing Mr Edmonds’ ownership, is also included.

When he bought it, the presenter was one of the most recognisable faces on telly, with regular appearances on Top of the Pops, and on the airwaves as he hosted the Radio 1 Breakfast Show.

The car is set to be sold by H&H Classics on Wednesday at the Imperial War Museum in Duxford, Cambridgeshire.

The gorgeous classic is expected to fetch £60,000.

The original E-type burst onto the scene in 1961 and is regarded as one of the best-looking British cars ever.

It has a tremendous racing pedigree, winning success with motorsport legend Graham Hill behind the wheel.

Icon status was secured as megastars including George Harrison, Peter Sellers and Frank Sinatra snapped them up.

The Series 2 debuted in 1968 with some radical design changes to conform to new safety standards in the US, but was no less popular.

Production ran until 1971, when it was replaced by the Series 3.

It is powered by a 4.2-litre inline six and had a top speed of over 130mph when new.

Damian Jones, H&H Classics motor car specialist, said: “The Jaguar E Type is a truly iconic British classic, admired around the world for its supercar performance and timeless appeal.

“To be able to offer an example with celebrity prominence further enhances the car’s appeal.”

It comes as a classic Ford Escort McRae rally car is set to go under the hammer for a huge price.

Meanwhile, a Rolls-Royce worth up to £100,000 that was seized from a gangster at the forefront of a narcotics ring was put up for auction – but it hides a dark secret.
