Keen car collector, Jay Kay, has owned a number of classic motors over the years, and he purchased the classy-looking, two-door beamer back in 1995 – around the same time the band’s hit album Travelling Without Moving was riding high in the charts.

The 2002 turbo remained in the singer’s collection for around 20 years, before he decided to sell it on.

Launched 50 years ago this year, the bold, sporty turbo model really stood out on UK roads and featured a dogleg gearbox, boost gauge and eye-catching decals, while the engine tech was derived from BMW’s racing success.

Munich Legends commented on their website: “Only 1672 of these amazing machines were made by BMW worldwide – all in LHD.

“Production was halted prematurely, and we’re left with a hugely reduced number of the original 1660 production models – according to howmanyareleft.co.uk there are only 9 licensed for road use in the UK with a further possible 10 on SORN.

“Decent ’02 turbos are becoming next to non-existent in the UK, and this one has a simply exceptional history, provenance and back story, so viewing is highly recommended.”
